Lanark County Volleyball: The Inaugural Season
It's hard to believe that the inaugural season of the Lanark County Volleyball Club has come to an end.
The season was a success in that it provided the opportunity for 21 girls from Smiths Falls, Perth and Carleton Place to play volleyball at the provincial level. All the girls showed tremendous growth over the season not only in their skill level but also mentally and emotionally.
For the club to be the success that it was there were a number of sponsors and partners that need to be recognized.
On behalf of Lanark County Volleyball I would like to thank Classic Wings, A&B Ford, Rideau Lumber, Marathon Drilling, Dr. Frazer Smith, Dr. Graham Hall and Ruth Fleming and Family for their generous support of the club.
To get better you need to practice so I would also like to thank Smiths Falls and District Collegiate Institute and St. Francis Catholic for the use of their gyms for the season.
As the coach I don't think I had the opportunity to tell each of the girls of just how proud I was of them.
They all came such a long way from those practices way back in October. They started the journey as unsure and timid and completed it with a wonderful performance at the Ontario Championships in May.
It truly was about believing in themselves, their teammates and the system. Roles changed somewhat over the season but each player accepted their role and did what was needed to help the team win. This team was built on the contributions of all the players, no matter how small or how large.
By the end of the season there was a sense of success and being able to compete at this level. Winning felt good.
I also want you to take a minute and thank your parents for all of their support over the season. They took the time to get you practice, travel to tournaments, pick you up when you are down and cheer for you. They were your biggest fans.
I look forward to the 2010-11 edition of Lanark County Volleyball.
My hope is to offer not only a girls program but a boys program in the fall.
We will need to recruit some more volunteers to expand our program. So if you know anyone who is interested in playing, coaching or simply volunteering please encourage them to visit our website and get involved.
Have a great summer and I will see you in the fall

The Training Centre North Volleyball Clinic. The first of many to come
The Lanark County Volleyball Club hosted a very successful volleyball clinic on Sunday February 28, 2010. Attended by 35 athletes from Perth, Carleton Place, Smiths Falls and Kemptville, the day was the first of many more clinics to be offered.
Dale Huddleston and Mike O'Brien did a wonderful job in encouraging and motivating the athletes to try something new and different. Everyone seemed to have a great time.
Thanks to Kristen Drouin, Donna Rumball and Josh Woods for all their help.
We will be offering more of these clinics so please keep checking the website to see dates and locations.
